ICI trains and supervises pastoral counselors who, usually, are pastors or church leaders working intentionally from their Christian faith orientation and perspective. ICI trains pastoral counselors to a clinic standard, exposing them and training them in counseling psychology which elevates their counseling knowledge and skills beyond the usual pastoral psychology. With this advanced training ICI trains pastoral counselors to integrate their theological understanding and their various spiritual disciplines into their counseling work.
It is the hope of ICI to move towards an accreditation process and status to elevate pastoral counseling to a professional standard. Dr. Manock’s Ph.D. dissertation research focused on the individual’s unconscious attachment style and its association with an individual’s unconscious image of God. It was an integrative work that draws from both disciples of theology and psychology. This combined with some 44 years of pastoral experience qualifies Dr. Manock to train and supervise pastoral counselors to do integrative work.
